Tarkwa Gold Mine - Gold Fields
The Tarkwa mine operates under mining leases covering a total area of approximately 20,800 ha. In F2009 Tarkwa produced 0.612 Moz of gold from heap leach and milling operations at a cash cost of US$521/oz. Tarkwa employed a workforce of 3,982 as of 30 June 2009, including contractors.

In 1961, production restarted under the State Gold Mining Corporation and in 1963 the Tarkwa mines were renamed Tarkwa Goldfields Limited. The Apinto shaft was sunk in the mid-seventies. GFG signed a management contract with the Ghanaian government to operate the mine in 1993, and in 1996 completed an FS on an open pit/heap leach operation.

Gold Fields reports 70 positive cases of COVID-19 at Ghana ...
May 28, 2020 · Of the 73 positive cases, 70 were recorded at the Tarkwa mine in Ghana of which 90% were contractors. Gold Fields said the majority of these cases were identified after contact tracing of the first two cases at the mine. So far, Tarkwa has tested 1,600 employees and contractors of a total workforce of 4,770 souls, the company said.
